Malan: “We are not ready to receive lessons from people who have higher unemployment or much bigger risk with Greece than us”

When Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel and French president Nicolas Sarkozy were asked at the weekend if they had received assurances from Mr Berlusconi about reducing Italy’s public debt, the pair gave knowing glances and paused, sparking laughter in the room.

Furious Italian MPs have said they do not deserve to be lectured about the delays.

“We are not ready, nevertheless, to receive lessons from people who have for instance higher unemployment than us or who have much bigger risk with Greece than us, tenfold,” Italian government MP Lucio Malan said.
